Target pistol or not, I find it hard to swallow the Camp Perry .22 doing 3L and having Rng 75 when .22 rifles do only 2L or 1L (why the dif?) and have Rng 50.

The rifles have the bullets going faster, which should mean better accuracy and more damage. Rifles are easier to hold stable, again leading to more accuracy.

Can anyone explain this?

It has to do with how damage is calculated. The Attack roll is both to hit and damage. So a very accurate, low caliber weapon can the same attack rating as a high caliber, not very accurate one.

I understand the accuracy idea....but having shot thousands of .22 rounds through both pistol and rifle I think those rifles must be junk to not shoot as accurately as a pistol, even a top target pistol.

So adjust the weapon damage according to what you think it should be in your game. I did similar with some of the weapons in the SOSW book -- I have a fair collection and noted the rifles weren't powerful enough, and a few of the pistols were too powerful.

agreed. the important thing is to keep the game going so that everyone has a good time. if you think the math behind some of the weapons is a tad off, then make an adjustment to it so that everyone is happy. the thing i've noted about HEX over other systems isn't so much the mechanics as it is the story. the game should move at the pace of the players, not the rules...

I second demon_llama's statement.

I'm brought to recall one of the rules in our gaming group, called the Grenade rule as it was inspired by the flavor text for the Grenade card in the now-defunct Shadowfist Hong Kong Action CCG:

"Grenades work better in the movies than in real life. This ain't real life."

Wink

To apply the rule in this case, game reality does not always coincide with "real" reality, as it hews more to what's playable and fun than established laws of physics (or history, etc.)

The best part is that nothing is set in stone. Don't like something? Change it without fear of admonishment or repercussion.

The only hard and fast rule is have fun! Very Happy

let me tell you Nestor, if you ever want to live in rules hell, be in a game sometime with a bunch of military people. back when i was active duty, one of our DM's broke out TWILIGHT 2000 and we attacked the system. boy, talk about the discussions about what was wrong (damages, equipment, even the military structure). think we spent more time in discussion then in game play!

Been there, done that. Believe me. Very Happy

There's a reason another rule in our gaming group is called the STFU rule. I'm sure you can figure that one out. Wink

Aw, come on! Everyone knows grenades go off with the force and fireball of an exploding fuel truck! Big big sheets of fire!

Also, fire only travels linearly and as fast as you can run/drive/fly.
