| So is there a space opera theme that is currently available or being worked on? I am considering putting one together for Ubiquity. Working title: StarLore, a Ubiquity RPG setting. Any input? |

Well, the next big book scheduled to come out for HEX is Revelations of Mars, which should cover the likes of Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, and John Carter of Mars. That may or may not be what you're thinking of.
I recall one of our forum members running what he called a Rapiers and Rayguns mini-campaign that wound up going very well. My Swiss-cheese memory fails me at nailing his identity, though.
This is in no way an attempt to discourage you, though. If you have something you want to put out for public perusal, we'd be glad to take a look and provide feedback. _________________

You may be thinking of Colin Chapman's Saviours of Saturn thread. _________________ "Nazis. I hate these guys."

| I am very eager to see the Revelations of Mars book (hopefully come Gencon?). I want to check out how easy it is to use it for a Star Wars-esque style pulp sci fi. While I am sure the setting is perfect for the Buck Rogers/Flash Gordon genre (and admittedly, this is not too far from Star Wars), I think there's enough of a difference that I might play off of it a bit and adapt a unique setting that might appeal to the Lucas film fans out there. The problem I think I'd most run into is making it like Star Wars but of course staying outside any copyright infringements. In the end, that might prove too difficult. What do you guys think? |

I think you're right in that comparisons to Star Wars will be hard to avoid, but I'm not sure if that is necessarily a handicap. It's not like the movie and setting didn't itself borrow heavily from earlier tropes. As long as you don't actually use the terms like Jedi, lightsaber, or Wookiee, you should be safe.
Pinnacle came out with a pretty decent pulp space opera setting, called Slipstream. It was written using Savage Worlds but would work nicely in HEX too. _________________

I am playing with the thought of HEXing the Hellas rpg, a heroic "Greeks in Space" rpg. But I have not even finished the second Old West adventure which i announced months ago Anyway, it is summer here up north, and we have to use it as long as it lasts! Writing indoors is reserved for the looong cold winter nights |

Heck, I don't finish most of the stuff I start working on. Not that I don't squirm a bit over it, but work on what you like! _________________ - Daniel Potter (MYTHIC ERAS)

just don't get discouraged if you hit a mental roadblock. close the file and move onto a different project for a while. go back to the other project when you mind lets you. "forced" work is never fun (or good), you have to enjoy what you are doing WHEN you are doing it. though can't wait to see what you come up with... _________________ ...the rich

Thanks, Talon One! I am looking forward to your previews! A space opera game with ubiquity rules is bound to be good!
Harrier and demon: No mental roadblock, I just had layed it on the shelf. But after I fininshed Parkers "Brimstone" recently, I got in a Western mood again
I just get distracted too easily. F.ex. last weekend there was this viking fair in our town, and now I am working on a round shield
Tomorrow we are off for a 2 weeks vacation in Italy and the Bavarian Alps, yess! Guess after that, I surely want to play mafia or renaissance related games |

I like the idea so much, I've got a ton of notes on the subject and it's one of a couple settings I've seriously considered licensing Ubiquity for to do for real. But I sincerely hope you to beat me to the punch, saving me the effort of doing it myself
Unfortunately, it means I'm probably going to have to duck out of any threads on the subject, just in case. But by all means, good luck! _________________ No, no, no. Ve like killingk Nazis too. |

| Thanks for all the motivation folks! I will wait to see what the Mars setting is like so that whatever ideas I put down on paper are not the same ones rehashed! Till then! |
