The Coen's True Grit is very good. I almost didn't recognize Barry Pepper in his bad-guy role. You can't go wrong with Jeff Bridges or Matt Damon, but a movie like this can really live or die on the quality of the young actor's performance, and the young girl did a fine job. I never really cared for the Duke that much (I know, sacrilege!), so I'm glad to have this new version. _________________ - Daniel Potter (MYTHIC ERAS)

Ooh, I can't wait to see it when they finally get it into the cinemas over here!
Thanks for the info, dear sirs!
Nestor: I almost cannot remember the John Wayne version, but I remember how I felt when I saw it! As a kid I thought The Duke was just best! To be honest, the last time I saw a John Wayne western (or better - a John Ford western) was some 5-6 years ago: The Searchers. And that's IS a good one! |

True Grit was definitely a good flick. Just to add an interesting bit to the comments: as we watched the film, my wife turned over to me after a bit of the film truly revealed some of the characters' very clear MOTIVATIONS and FLAWS and said, "Feels like I'm watching an rpg."
Seems like its a topic she hears me talk a bit about, huh? |

Hahahah!!!
Yeah, I noticed that too. The characters acted like "real" people, keeping true to their personality quirks and foibles as they were presented to us. _________________

| Dang! Why does it take so long for movies to arrive in this little country? |

Long time, no read! The last months were .... busy! Real lifeTM (this is yours, Nestor!) was just demanding my full attention.
Hopefully, I can indulge my favorite pasttime a little more the coming days.
Shadowrun HEX is shelved for a while as I now got in a Western mood again after watching 3 atypical but none the less "iconical Western" movies: "Sukiyaki Western Django", "The Good, the Bad, the Weird" and "Rango"
The 2 first being Asian "Westerns", both are enjoyable homages to the Spaghetti-Western. For those who have not read Rbrees post somewhere else in this forum, the Korean "Good, Bad, Weird" really is fun and also interesting for HEX players. Go and see it!
The last of these 3 movies, Rango, I watched today with my daughter. Somehow having missed any trailer and therefore quite unsuspecting, I really was having a good time That one really was fun! And it has a great score with all these references to many of my favorite movie and music pieces! My daughter wanted to play cowboy the rest of the evening!
(I know for the HEX gang on the other side of the Atlantic this probably is old news, but I just had to tell... ) |

Rango is pretty funny, but Sukiyaki Western Django for the win! It's just so absurd _________________ - Daniel Potter (MYTHIC ERAS)

Sukiyai WD is indeed! It even has Sherriff Gollum in it ! And brilliant Djangoesque Gatling action!
But I am just sold for the music in Rango (the score of Good, Bad Weird is also extremely entertaining)! As my daughter put it: "It so cool! It makes me want to stand like this....." >>Insert the picture of a little 9-year-old girl posing as the meanest Clint-Eastwood-Man-with-No-Name copy, giving you "The Stare TM"!<< |

I just finished my third adventure for Old West HEX:
The heroes are joining a posse to hunt down a gang of bank robbers, but as they catch up, they are in for a surprise...

Thank you so much, Mr Potter
.., but would you mind to put up the corrected version? I replaced the first file with a new one yesterday. Nothing big but there were some minor stuff to be straightened out.
I promise not to fiddle with it from now on |

Somehow, the headlines and the page number are all blurred, i.e. unreadable. Is it just me or are others having the same problem? _________________ "I have wrought my simple plan

Mister Potter? I know I said no more changes but...
I uploaded another version as I found some bad writing in the appendices. i also added one thing about Doc O'Leary which I forgot to include.
Would you mind to replace it with the file in the ME- forum, pretty please? Thanks a lot!
Nur-Ab-Sal:
I don't know, but maybe you just need to install the free Expo font. You find it f.ex. here
Hope that helps. |
