Well, it is a very familiar pattern when doing one of those "play yourself" campaigns. Just look at the demographics for gamers.
In retrospect, I think I would remove the Asthma Flaw from my submission. While I did suffer from it as a kid, it doesn't fit as well in the archetype the PC represents. In that vein, I would also prioritize the Poor Vision over the Obese Flaw; it also fits better.
I do think having one of the PCs with Asthma is in genre. So is having one kid with Acne. _________________ "I've got a degree in kicking arse and I'd have a doctorate in not giving a damn if I'd bothered to attend the ceremony." |

I'll be posting up my own very soon. I'll probably go with a 12 year old version. I'd rather go with the 15 year old version, because by that point I actually had a couple of decent skills.
The flaws should be easy:
Color blind

So, I mentioned to my beautiful wife about the preponderance of brainy geeks in the character submissions and she said, "Why don't you write me up as a kid?"
Did I mention I love my wife very much?
So, I humbly submit an idealized rendition of Melanie as a kid.
Archetype: Jock/Tomboy
Motivation: Excitement!
Primary Attributes:
Body: 3
Dexterity: 3
Strength: 3
Charisma: 2
Intelligence: 2
Willpower: 3
Secondary Attributes:
Size: 0
Move: 6
Perception: 5
Initiative: 5
Defense: 6
Stun: 3
Skills
Acrobatics 3/3/6(3) [She's double-jointed and in the school gymnastics team]
Animal Handling 2/2/4(2) [She grew up in a farm]
Athletics 3/6/9(4+) [She can outthrow, outrun, and outhit most every boy in school]
- Climbing 10(5) [If it's vertical, she'll climb it]
Brawl 3/1/4(2) [Dad made sure she knew how to take care of herself]
Con 2/2/4(2) [She always seems to get her way]
Performance 2/1/3(1+)
- Dancing 4(2) [Mom made sure she took ballet like a proper little lady should]
Survival 2/3/5(2+) [She loves the outdoors!]
- Navigation 6(3) [She loves looking at maps!]
Talents:
Agile
Resources:
None
Flaw:
Stubborn [When she sets her mind on something, stay out of her way!]
Yes, my wife was taller, stornger and tougher than almost every other kid in her class. Having the bruiser of the team be a girl hearkens to the Encyclopedia Brown stories, for those familiar with young adult fiction.
And if there's a concern about gender in the Wilderness Kids, there's an easy answer for it. She's the pack leader's daughter. _________________ "I've got a degree in kicking arse and I'd have a doctorate in not giving a damn if I'd bothered to attend the ceremony." |

I suspect that it has to do with the fact that one looks back at oneself when one was a teenager, and likes to think kindly of oneself.
In my own case, I was reading Ayn Rand when I was 11, and had already read Tolkien and Asimov's Foundation stuff when I was almost 9. By my early teens, Roman history and Archaeology were almost hobbies of mine. I think I spent more time in libraries when I was in my teens than anywhere else, and I loved to read.
In retrospect, I would also drop my Asthma Flaw, since by the time I was 14 or so it was more about allergies than anything else to me. I would possibly add Bad-Tempered or something along the lines, since I inherited my father's bad temper, and I'm told that I was *nasty* at times as a teenage boy! _________________ "The pterodactyl swooped down and...well, let's just say that Loren

I shouldn't brag.
Oh, what the heck...
In college, my wife had a tendency to sit outside her dorm room to study while her roommate "entertained". One evening, she was sitting down on the hall, casually doing a full-split while leaning forward to read her book opened on the floor, when she caught the eye of the R.A., returning from a party and slightly tipsy.
Seeing her pose, he intoned, "If you have any imagination, I envy your husband."
And with that, I declare this threadjack officially ended... _________________ "I've got a degree in kicking arse and I'd have a doctorate in not giving a damn if I'd bothered to attend the ceremony." |

As a kid, Melanie was the one who spent her time walking around the woods barefoot. It's the one thing she misses the most living here in the city.
Figures she'd get stuck with a born-and-bred concrete-under-my-feet city boy like me. _________________ "I've got a degree in kicking arse and I'd have a doctorate in not giving a damn if I'd bothered to attend the ceremony." |
