Nope. All four of my copies are still rock-solid.

I ripped my off and spiral bound it before it could fall of. My book is so beat that I'm hoping to find one that IS falling apart so I can make another spiral bound copy. _________________ DANGER MAGNET! at WWW.DANGERMAGNET.COM is your source for a FREE Hollow Earth Expedition Electronic Magazine! |

Might be worth mentioning this to Jeff or Melissa. Appreciate it is a year down the line but a good quality hardback should last longer than that. |

That does depend on the conditions the book is kept in, as well as other things like humidity and number of children and pets in the house with access to the book.
Still, it is a shame the book is falling apart, but like Shawn said, binding is still an option. _________________ "Nazis. I hate these guys."

Mick, I'd happily take the old one off your hands and give it the old 4-ring-binder treatment if you've got a new one on the way... I wish I'd read this thread a bit sooner, I'd have traded you my hardcover with pleasure. _________________ Just remember who’s standing in your way, remember every black day I ever stopped you and then—AND THEN—do the smart thing: let somebody else try first. |

| I have the same issue. I noticed the pages towards the back are starting to come loose from the binding. |

What's telling is that it only seems to be the core book, so I'm guessing it was a bad run (I'm pretty sure they went with a different printer for the other books anyway).
Exile will, as mentioned, likely replace the book, but if you want to spiral bind it, I'd heartily suggest binding in the GM screen booklet along with. They'll cut everything to match, and it makes for a handy appendix. _________________ Newest Hollow Earth Expedition product: Legacy of the Terra Arcanum. Is there any word on whether the binding issue of the core rulebook has been resolved? I've only had mine for 10 months and used it very lightly and it is separating.
I want to buy a new copy at the booth at Origins this year, but I want to make sure before I do that the current batch is stitched tight. |

I had a similar problem with my book: After three weeks, the last few pages fell out. I found out that the problem was the very last page (the one with the map on it that is glued to the cardstock back). That page was glued to the back so that when opening the book completely, it would build up tension and tear out the other pages.
I cut the map page at the binding to release the tension and was able to fix the pages using wood glue - worked like a charm for me. Simply put a bit of that stuff on the binding, and re-insert the pages . the next day, it should be just fine. _________________ "I have wrought my simple plan

I decided to just buy a new book (well, okay I bought 2) instead of swapping; voting with the dollar and all that for an excellent game. As someone on this thread pointed out, thats lost dollars for EGS and thats bad.
For those of you who went the binder route, did you do it yourself or did you have it done "professionally"? If so, any suggestions for a location and maybe a ballpark on cost?
I am leery of doing my own binder treatment; although I am equipped with opposeable thumbs, sometimes they trip each other up I'd rather have it done well if that is an affordable option. |

I had my copy spiral bound ages ago at staples for about $12.00. The hard covers had to go, but they put on plastic coves. Now this has started falling apart as well, but it had nothing to do with the quality of the work. I'd say that the hours of wear and tear that my copy of HEX has put in would have messed up a book made out of steel. _________________ DANGER MAGNET! at WWW.DANGERMAGNET.COM is your source for a FREE Hollow Earth Expedition Electronic Magazine! |

It's $5 for a spiral bind at FedeX/Kinkos, which includes cutting the rough edges for you and a clear front and vinyl back. I've had half a dozen or so RPG books rebound there and several more pdfs bound there too. _________________ Newest Hollow Earth Expedition product: Legacy of the Terra Arcanum.
