What the thread title says...

Here's a link to an RPG Net thread

And OneBookShelf is already up.

It's mixed news for me.

The prospect of a one-stop source for games is encouraging. I was never happy with DriveThruRPG's obsession with DRM, though. Or their prices.

At least it seems like the RPGNow material won't be automatically watermarked/DRM'ed.

I guess it's just "wait and see"...

I loathe and detest DRMs, since I work/play on three different machines, and keeping the DRMs coordinated is a HYOOGE pain-in-the-posterior.

A watermark doesn't bother me so much (as in, my name & copy number barely visible in the header/footer as the DriveThruRPG folks do) since that does offer the authors and game-companies some kind of intellectual property rights (IPR) protection. Sure it can be hacked or stripped out, but I don't object to the IPR holder's insistence on it, because they have a right to some kind of protection.

Given the astounding amount of game PDFs and scanned copies that are routinely file-shared out there, and the glee with which I've heard many gamers in my FLGS chortle about how they've got 99% of a certain Seattle-based RPG mega-company's entire library on illegally downloaded PDFs, a watermark (IMHO) is a small compromise to which I can readily agree.

The DRMs are mostly a thing of the past. I've only gotten watermarked stuff from DriveThru for some time now.
