The first part of this new Ken Burns documentary aired on Sunday, and the second part was on last night. The final part of the documentary airs tonight.
While Prohibition ended before the 1936 date of HEX, this documentary has presented a fascinating look at how Prohibition developed int he United States, in the course of which it discusses several critical influences on American History at the time (including, among others, the Suffragette movement, Nativism, and Federalism) which I think were heavily influential on the late 1930s and 1940s, and continue to be relevant today.
If you're a fan of HEX and that period of American History, I highly recommend trying to catch (or DVR) the final 2 hour episode of "Prohibition" airing tonight on PBS (which presumably discusses how and why it was eventually repealed, and the aftermath thereof). |
